Thanksgiving Sides Power Rankings 2018 #thanksgiving #powerrankings

Written by

Tomorrow is the Superbowl of Food (and anyone who says otherwise is wrong). From the giant birds to the desserts to the sides, there’s nothing better than tucking in to one (maybe multiple) Thanksgiving dinners. One thing no one can agree on (outside of politics and football) would be which sides are the must haves. Do you prefer smashed potatoes or baked? Mac n Cheese or cauliflower? Here’s our power ranking of the top 5 Thanksgiving sides (and yes, order matters!)

5. Mashed Potatoes – You can’t go wrong with mashed or smashed potatoes. Gravy and potatoes (and cheese, bacon, chives or whatever) go a long way to completing the meal, but they round out the bottom of the list at number 5. Yea, you need them but you don’t NEED them.

4. Mac ‘n Cheese – As long as its not from a box. Homemade Mac ‘n Cheese is tough to beat. It rounds out the list at number 4 though as we don’t want to fill up on too much of the starchy foods.

3. Green Beans – In my house we make them with potatoes, bacon and onions added in for that southern flavor (ham is ok as well). We’re not big on those Green bean casseroles with the onions on top, but if that floats your boat, more power to you. You do have to have a bit of green in order to make it a complete meal and we’re ok with that.

2. Stuffing/Dressing – No matter what you call it. Stuffing or Dressing is a must have when serving up the big bird. There’s so many different kinds (cornbread, regular bread, shrimp) you can find one to satisfy everyone. This would come in at number 1, but we feel there’s one thing that really makes the Thanksgiving meal and that one is at number one. However, we want to know your favorite kind of stuffing, so drop us a note in the comments.

  1. Gravy! – Yes. Gravy is a side. And yes, its number one. You can’t have turkey without gravy. You can’t have mashed potatoes without gravy. You can’t make leftover turkey sandwiches with out a bit of mayo and gravy on the bread. You can put it on everything or you can simply dunk your rolls in it to soften them up a bit. Gravy is the must have, whether you make it from scratch with the drippings or you make it from a packet with a cup of water, Gravy rounds out the Thanksgiving meal and should be on every table.

Have a side we missed? We want to know about it, so comment or post a photo!
